Why Monthly Chair Maintenance Matters
Your office chairs take a beating. Every day, your team sits, leans, rolls, and adjusts. Over months, small issues become expensive problems — and uncomfortable employees become distracted ones. The good news? A quick monthly maintenance routine catches problems early, keeps chairs comfortable, and saves you thousands in repairs or replacement.
We've seen it countless times here at Bizniz Chairs: businesses that spend 20 minutes a month on chair checks rarely need major repairs. Those that skip maintenance? They're calling us for emergency fixes or complete reupholstery.
The 6 Monthly Checks Every Business Should Do
1. Test the Gas Cylinder
Sit down and pump the seat up and down. Does it hold at different heights, or does it slowly sink? A failing gas cylinder is the #1 complaint we hear — and it's also the easiest to catch early. If it's going, order a replacement now before it becomes unusable.
2. Check All Casters Roll Smoothly
Spin your chair and roll it across your floor. Are any wheels stiff or squeaky? Pop out the caster and give it a quick clean — dust and hair wrap around the wheel axle constantly. If it still doesn't roll after cleaning, replacement casters are inexpensive and easy to fit.
3. Inspect the Backrest and Seat for Tears
Run your hands over the fabric or leather. Small tears and snags get worse fast, especially on fabric chairs in heavy-use offices. Catch them now, and we can do a targeted repair. Ignore them, and you'll need full reupholstery later.
4. Test All Armrest Adjustments
If your chairs have adjustable armrests, move them up, down, in, and out. Do they move freely? Do they hold position? Stiff or broken armrests create neck and shoulder strain — and damaged ones can be safety hazards. Test them monthly and flag any that feel loose or unresponsive.
5. Check Seat Foam Firmness
Sit for a moment. Does the cushion feel supportive, or have you sunk right through to the base? Compressed foam loses its ability to support your spine and increases pressure on your tailbone. If seats feel flat, it's often time to reupholster with fresh foam — a game-changer for comfort and productivity.
6. Look for Wobbles or Cracks in the Base
Gently rock your chair side to side. Any wobble? Inspect the five-point base for cracks. A cracked base won't fail catastrophically — usually — but it can affect stability. Small cracks can sometimes be reinforced; larger ones may need base replacement.
